The Kolaveri Di of Menstruation!

Of course I don’t need to explain about it much!

Menstruation is a natural female body process. This causes regular monthly discharge of blood from the linings of uterus.

It comes out through the door of cervix and then vagina.

Periods or period cycle or menstrual cycle or bleeding days or menstruating days are some of its various names.

To simplify the whole process, let me tell you that Menstruation is a process in which an egg is released in your ovary every month.

If this egg doesn’t receive the sperm of male, it gets destroyed on 25th or 28th day.

This causes a sumptuous flow of blood from your vagina. Here is your periods’ beginning!

You would be surprised to know that in Vedic Sanskrit language the word for menstruation is ‘Rituchakra’.

It basically has three parts, i.e. ‘Rajahsravakaal’, ‘Ritukaal’ and ‘Rituvyatitkaal’.

The original term ‘period’ dates back to 1822 AD, which literally means ‘repeated cycle of events’.

Emotional and Internal Changes:

Menstrual cramps are the painful situation that a woman faces near pelvic areas and in abdomen during her menstruating days.

It may vary from extremely severe to mild range.

Light pain may be ignored but severe pains may sometimes lead to greater disturbance in daily activities of a woman.

Disturbed hormones cause some fluctuation in contraction of muscles and other internal tissues in uterus.

This leads to the painful feeling in abdomen and pelvic areas.

Such physical changes are called menstrual cramps.

Menstruation causes not only physical changes but also emotional and internal changes as well.

In medical term, it is called Dysmenorrhea. They are divided in mainly two parts, Primary and secondary.

Primary Dysmennorhea has mild cramp pains and most common in women.

Secondary Dysmenorrhea results in severe pains. It is above the normal border and also may affect female’s reproductive system.

Surveys have discovered that 50% women suffer from such menstrual cramps during their menstruation days.

Out of 50%, there are 15% females who have claimed to have severe cramps.

However, with the passage of time and age, this may lessen.

Symptoms of Menstrual cramps:

Following are some basic symptoms of menstrual cramps.

  • Pain in lower abdomen

The symptoms of cramps usually begin before the upcoming period day. It gets severe and worst during first and second day. Later on they start decreasing.

Why Menstrual cramps occurs?

As we all Google bees know that uterus lining is built every month with an expectation of pregnancy.

But after the process of ovulation, if the egg doesn’t find its male partner, i.e. sperm, the possibility of pregnancy is dismissed and with that the uterus lining is also broken.

The estrogen and progesterone hormones get reduced and it results in shedding the lining of uterus in the form of blood.

When this breakdown begins prostaglandins known as molecular compounds are released. This leads to the contraction of muscles.

This results in blocking the supply of oxygen to the endometrial tissues and thus they die.

After killing them the uterine contractions turn to old endometrial tissues through the door of cervix.

This whole underground secret process is the sole reason of your menstrual cramp.
